The Gadugi Program Hosted Cherokee High School/Appalachian State University Scholars on Thursday, February 2

The Gadugi Program hosted Cherokee High School/Appalachian State University Scholars on Thursday, February 2, 2017. The group enjoyed dinner and attended Dr. Edward Westermann's lecture "Hitler’s Ostkrieg and the Indian Wars: Comparing Genocide and Conquest."

Dr. Westermann is Professor of History at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He also serves as the Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio.

Gadugi scholars had the opportunity to meet Dr. Westermann after the lecture and speak with him about:

  • American Indian history
  • Issues of comparative history
  • Challenges of taking on controversial issues such as genocide and conquest.

Dr. Westermann has offered to send each Gadugi student a signed copy of his work!

Very special thanks to Dr. Nancy Love of the Humanities Council for the invitation, and to Mr. Heath Robertson for providing transportation for our students.

The lecture was sponsored by the Humanities Council and the Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies.
